Inverness Hotels – Less Than 1 Mile From Centre
1 Gordon Terrace, Inverness, IV2 3HD
I have never actually stayed at the Redcliffe Hotel but I have visited for meetings and lunches and had a look round while I was there.
The location of the Redcliffe is great. It’s in a nice part of the city, in the area behind the Castle. The location means there is easy access down into the city, with a walk down a short hill bringing you into the High Street.
The rooms are nicely furnished and decorated in a modern style. The hotel also has a nice restaurant including a wood fired pizza so there is a choice of menus which is always great.
The bar and restaurant are warm and welcoming with some tables outside and some dining in the conservatory area too.
There is some parking on site.
The hotel feels more boutique in style so if that’s your type of hotel, you want free parking and to be close to the city centre then the Redcliffe is a great choice.
9 Annfield Road, Inverness, IV2 3HX
The Craigmonie is set within a residential area of Inverness. The main entrance of the hotel is a large Victorian style building. There is a comfortable small lounge at the front of the hotel, plus a larger bar next door with restaurant all housed in a conservatory.
The Craigmonie also has a selection of meeting rooms on the ground floor plus some private group dining areas.
There is a small but really nice pool plus a little poolside lounge area. There is also a sauna and beauty treatments and massages are available.
Over the years the hotel has been extended which has resulted in some extensions to the back of the building. There is a lift but there may be a step or two between the different parts of the hotel.
The Craigmonie is also dog friendly and there is plenty of parking on site, although when there are functions on too this can be over subscribed.
The Craigmonie is within walking distance of the city centre. It is probably around a 15 minute walk down into the city centre itself but it is a straightforward and pleasant walk.
If you are looking for a mid range hotel with parking and a pool then this could be a good choice for you.

Culcabock Road, Inverness, IV2 3LP
The Kingsmills is a large hotel set on the outskirts of Inverness. It is located next to the golf course.
Being slightly out of the centre means there is a more spacious and greener feel to the hotel thanks to it’s garden like surroundings.
The main building houses the reception, bar, restaurant, pool and spa area plus a large conference area. There are a mix of rooms of different sizes in this part of the building. Some of the rooms at the front of the hotel are a bit smaller and look over the car park.
The hotel has been expanded over the years and a recent addition has been some lovely garden annexe rooms which have small terrace areas. They have a modern, light and airy feel.
The swimming pool is nice with a good sized gym located nearby. There is a poolside lounge area, and spa treatments available to book.
The Kingsmills has a selection of function and meeting rooms throughout the hotel as well.
Across from the main building (white) is the Kingsclub. This is a modern addition to the Kingsmill Hotel with chic modern rooms. Some of these rooms overlook the adjacent golf course. There is a dining area in the Kingsclub and this is where breakfast is served. There is also a nice mezzanine lounge area and a business centre in the Kingsclub as well. A golf cart transports guests and their luggage over from the main building.
There is plenty of free parking on site
The Kingsmills is located approximately 20 minutes walk from the city centre.
The location of the Kingsmills means that there is not so much around the hotel itself. There is a pub located nearby which is quite a locals pub that does value type pub meals. There is also a small convenience store located nearby as well.
If you are looking for a more upscale hotel with a more garden type feel, with larger rooms and good leisure facilities the Kingsmills might be a good choice for you.

Millburn Road, Inverness, IV2 3TR
The Jurys Inn is located very close to the A9. It has 118 bedrooms in a large tower making it one of the larger Inverness hotels.
The hotel has changed hands over a number of years and whilst the inside has been refurbished the basic structure of the hotel such as the windows and double glazing have remained the same.
Jurys has plenty of free parking right beside the hotel. On entering the hotel there is a reception area, with a restaurant area to the right and bar to the left.
Two lifts take guests to all floors. Just beside reception is a little snack bar area.
Also on the ground floor are various meeting rooms.
Towards the rear of the hotel is a decent sized pool with spa facilities and a gym. This is one of the larger hotel pools in Inverness.
Rooms at Jurys are what you would expect from the group. However, some of the rooms can be a bit noisy. This could be because of road noise or just the fact that the windows are quite old so don’t necessarily provide the most effective insulation.
The evening meal service can be a bit hit and miss at Jurys. One of the issues seems to be that the meals are the same whether served in the bar, restaurant or room service, with sometimes a small number of staff having to cover all three. Depending on how busy it is this can cause some problems.
The main restaurant area, which is a large round area at the front of the hotel can be very cold.
The bar area is a good place to meet up for a coffee and there is good WIFI as well.
The breakfasts at Jury’s are self service and there is a good selection of vegan options. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait for special items, again depending on how busy the hotel is.
Jurys does do a good loyalty scheme. Just signing up gets you a free coffee and then there are discounts on future stays and free coffees as well, so it is one of the few hotel schemes I joined.
If you are looking for a chain hotel so that you know a bit more what you are getting, with good leisure facilities and plenty of parking then Jurys might be a good choice for you. It is a bit further out of city so it would probably take the best part of half and hour to walk into the city centre.
If you don’t fancy eating in the restaurant Millburn takeaway is directly across the road (fish, chips & Chinese), plus a KFC very close as well.

Old Perth Road, Inverness, IV2 5BE
The Macdonald Drumossie Hotel is a large 4 star hotel set on the outskirts of Inverness. It’s location means it is set in a quiet and green area, in 9 acres of landscaped grounds infact.
Rooms are classicly styled and furnished as you would expect for a hotel at the more luxury end of the market.
The hotel has 44 bedrooms which you may find surprising given the size of the hotel. However, the Drumossie has some of the largest conference rooms and facilities in the area so it is popular with everything from exhibitions, to conferences, to parties and of course weddings.
The reception area is cosy and comfortable with big deep sofas. It is a great place to sit and chat over a coffee. This area, called The Lounge, also serves snacks and sandwiches during the day.
Upscale dining is available at the hotel restaurant, The Grill. Local quality ingredients are a key ingredient of the menu with dishes crafted and beautifully presented.
There are no leisure facilities at the Drumossie but there are grounds to take a wander round. Whilst the hotel is located outside of Inverness, just 1.5 miles away from the city centre, it is handy for the A9 and is on the Culloden Battlefield side of the city.
If you are looking for a quieter hotel, on the outskirts of the city, with more upscale dining and rooms then the Drumossie might be the hotel for you.

I have to admit to having a bit of a soft spot for the Holiday Inn Express. It is somewhere I used regularly for meetings and a spot of working while in Inverness. It’s also somewhere I have stayed a couple of times and got some really good rates.
The Holiday Inn Express is a more budget version of the Holiday Inn brand of course. This particular hotel is located in a business park area just outside Inverness itself.
To reach the hotel from the A9 you need to head out on the A96 towards Nairn and then double back on yourself as if coming back towards Inverness and then take the first left, just past The Snow Goose pub. As the road bears right turn left and you will see the Holiday Inn Express. There is plenty of free parking.
Reception is just through the double doors to the left. There is a breakfast area and meeting room. Rooms are as you would expect, clean and compact.
One of the reasons I like this hotel is that there is The Snow Goose pub opposite. This pub has nice fires burning and is a comfortable welcoming pub where you can enjoy a leisurely drink or a mid priced meal. They also have a separate vegan menu.
Also nearby is a multiplex cinema, the Vue, alongwith a BurgerKing and Pizza Hut if that’s your thing. These are all located on the Inverness Retail Park which has a variety of shops including The Range, selling everything for the home plus a very large Tesco store.
If you are looking for plenty of free parking, a choice of meal options with shopping nearby and everything you need rooms at a good price then the Holiday Inn Express might be the place for you.

Located just 4.5 miles from Inverness on the A862 road Bunchrew House Hotel has a really lovely location. It’s described as the romantic hotel on the shore and that sums it up perfectly.
This turreted delight is perched on the edge of the Beauly Firth, set amongst trees and landscaped gardens.
Inside the reception and public areas are warm, comfortable and very welcoming. The interior matches the romantic exterior, with little nooks and areas and comfy seating so you can sit and gaze at or snuggle up to someone special.
Whilst I haven’t stayed at Bunchrew House I have been lucky enough to dine there a few times and I have always enjoyed the atmosphere, the welcome, the ambience and the food of course too.
Rooms are individually styled and individually names making picking the perfect room potentially quite difficult.
Bunchrew House is at the more luxury end of thChece market.
If you are looking for a romantic getaway at an independent hotel with a great location, friendly service and a relaxing surrounded by nature environment then Bunchrew House might be just the hotel for you.
