Are Packing Cubes Really Helpful?
Packing cubes make packing and unpacking much easier, as you can divide up your belongings. Packing cubes help you make the most of your luggage space. Compression packing cubes reduce the amount of space your clothes take up.

Packing and unpacking can be time-consuming. I can’t tell you how many times on the last night of a tour the majority of the tour group disappears to do their packing. What a shame that they are missing the last night of their holiday – to pack!
Packing cubes makes packing, unpacking and finding what you need much easier.
You can divide or group your clothes according to your requirements. That might mean tops in one cube, bottoms in another, daytime in one, evening in another, work in one and casual in another. It is entirely up to you.
However, you sort your clothes you can unpack your whole suitcase in a couple of minutes. Just take out the packing cubes and put them wherever you want them – that’s it.
If you want to take everything out and hang it up you can of course!
The great thing about packing cubes is that they keep your clothes from rolling or moving around your case. That means they arrive at your destination as you packed them. No need to get the iron out when you arrive at your destination – just grab and go.
Packing cubes can be used to store clothes that are rolled or folded, whichever you prefer. I find folding works well in packing cubes.

Compression Packing Cube for Travel
If you want to reduce the size of the luggage you travel with then you need compression packing cubes.
These cubes work exactly the same as regular packing cubes in that you pack your clothes into them. However, once the packing cube is full you then compress the contents of the bag using the double zipper system.
The picture below shows how they work.
I have found these cubes work best with clothes that are folded rather than rolled.
They can require a bit of effort to close but do save a great deal of space.
They are ideal if you want to travel just with hand luggage or under seat luggage to save on baggage fees for example.
These cubes will reduce your packing space by about 50% with most materials, denim is a little tougher.
You do need to take care packing these as the clothes will be compressed and if you have creases when you pack these, you will definitely have creases when you unpack them.
