Self Guided Walking Tour Invergordon – Starting Point

The walking route starts from the exit gate of the Port of Cromarty Firth.

Just turn right at the end of the gangway when leaving the ship. Follow the green path around to the exit gate.

Once you have exited the security gate cross the road using the pedestrian traffic lights.

Once you have crossed turn right on the footpath. That’s the starting point of the tour.

Walking Tour Route to the Museum

The first part of the walking tour takes you past Natal Gardens, a small memorial garden built to remember those killed in a tragic accident here in the Cromarty Firth.

The tour then continues around the edge of the Co-Operative store car park.

The tour heads to the Invergordon Museum – a recommended stop that is free to visit.

Just pause the tour, enjoy the museum, and start again when ready to continue.

Invergordon High Street

The tour travels along Invergordon High Street. During this part of the walk you will learn a little bit about the history of the town along the way.

You will also get an introduction to the shops in the town, with what they sell and some local tips and suggestions for things you might like to try or take home as gifts.

There is also an introduction to the murals during this walk. The murals are all different and each has a different story to tell.

Invergordon Railway Station

The walking tour heads down Invergordon High Street to the railway station. This is my favourite mural of the lot and it tells a very poignant and sad story about the Second World War.

It’s told beautifully through this massive mural which covers the railway station.

Returning to the Starting Point

The walk continues to the shore road. You may want to take a diversion here and enjoy a wander along the grassed area opposite the port. It’s a great spot for a picnic on a warm day too.

The tour route continues back to the starting point at the port security gate.
