Coming to Invergordon? Here are my Invergordon Cruise Port resources – my recommendations for local tour operators, businesses and essential travel items for your visit.

I’ve worked as a Tour Guide and Pier Co-Ordinator in Invergordon Port for over 15 years. I’ve taken nearly all of the tours and now co-ordinate guides and drivers on the pier. Every recommendation on this page is personal — these are the people and places I know and trust.

There are a variety of options, including private tours, available.

🚖 Private Taxis/Tours

If you want to do your own tour with a local taxi then you really need to book this in advance, otherwise there might not be availability on the day. Invergordon is limited when it comes to taxis – we don’t have Uber or anything like that.

I recommend Scotland Taxi Tours. They run tours themselves and also work with lots of taxi drivers to provide a great service to cruise guests.

🍽 Eating & Drinking in Invergordon

Rashos Cafe

My top recommendation for a meal in Invergordon. Run by locals Fay and Rasho. Serves breakfasts all day, soups, pasta, kebabs and pizzas. Always busy — mention your time limit when ordering. Open 9:30am–8pm daily (closed Wednesday, opens 10:30am Sunday).

Clootie McToot Cafe

A lovely community café on the High Street serving soups, cakes and sandwiches. Profits are reinvested back into the community — a great place to support local while you eat.

Tanstar Gifts

Located at the top of the High Street, Tanstar stocks gifts made by local craftspeople. My first stop for a genuine local souvenir to bring home from your visit to Invergordon.

Sweets + Treats

Homemade gelato, a great sweet selection, bubble teas and iced teas on the High Street. My emergency ice cream stop!

✈️ Invergordon Travel Essentials

There are a few essential items that will enhance your visit to Invergordon. Here’s what I recommend;

A Great Hat – I love Heat Holders hats. They are great at keeping your warm and keeping the wind out of your ears. The area by the cruise ship in Invergordon is usually very windy (the ship is moored next to large industrial buildings, creating a funnel!). Umbrellas can’t usually deal with the wind. There are also matching neck warmers so you can be really cosy.

Waterproof/windproof jacket – the weather can be quite changeable, especially given the amount of hills and lochs in the Highlands. Taking a jacket is always a good idea. Don’t go for showerproof as it won’t be able to cope with a heavy downpour.

Travel sickness aids if travelling in the area – the roads in the Highlands are often much smaller and twistier than people are used to at home. I suffer from travel sickness so take a small fan with me and ginger sweets. I also take ginger tablets if I am going to be taking a boat trip.

Midge spray – if you are travelling over to the West Coast (taking a trip to Eilean Donan perhaps?) then you may want to consider midge spray in the warmer months. They usually aren’t a problem but if you the mosquitos like you midgies will too. Smidge is the best midge spray available.

💬 Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book a tour on the day I arrive in Invergordon?

You could try but there may not be any availability and if there is it may not be with a local driver/guide. I would strongly recommend booking in advance so you are able to visit the places you want to.

Where to tour operators meet passengers in Invergordon?

They meet outside the port gates at the West Harbour. Turn right when you leave the secure area beside the ship, pass by the shop and following around by the pier. Exit the port, cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and you will find the private tour operators. Taxis are just on the right before you cross the road.

Will I get back to the ship on time with an independent tour?

Reputable local operators time their tours to return passengers to port well before departure – this reduces any risk of missing the ship.

Can I arrange a private or customised tour?

Absolutely — several operators offer bespoke tours where you choose destinations and pacing. This is ideal for Outlander fans, whisky enthusiasts, or groups who want a more personal experience.

What are the best things to do without a tour?

The town is very walkable. The Invergordon Museum is free, the High Street has lovely local shops, and the waterfront murals are worth seeing. The golf club is also an easy stroll from the port gates.
