Explore Baku

One of the highlights of Azerbaijan is its capital city, Baku. This vibrant metropolis is a blend of old and new, with ancient palaces and modern skyscrapers standing side by side.

Visit the Old City of Baku

Take a stroll through the historic Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with:

  • Narrow cobblestone streets
  • Charming cafes
  • Fascinating architecture

Nature Awaits

For nature lovers, Azerbaijan offers breathtaking scenery, including:

  • Lush forests
  • Rugged mountains
  • Pristine beaches along the Caspian Sea

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Gobustan National Park, home to ancient rock carvings dating back thousands of years.

Enjoy the Cuisine

Azerbaijan is also famous for its delicious cuisine, which draws influences from:

  • Persian
  • Turkish
  • Russian
  • Middle Eastern flavors

Be sure to try traditional dishes like:

  • Plov (rice pilaf)
  • Dolma (stuffed grape leaves)
  • Kebabs

I would go back to Baku just for the food to be honest – it was great, with huge platters for breakfast and lots of flavourful dishes.

My Experience of Azerbaijan

Baku is an amazing city with futuristic buildings, including one that resembles a roll of carpet.

Explore the Old City

The Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage site. I enjoyed visiting an old silk road inn, called a caravansarai, where I had a meal thinking of all the people that had used the building over the years – spine tingling.

Iconic Landmarks

Baku is also home to the Flame Towers. These three skyscrapers dominate the skyline and light up with LED colors at night. You can even stay in the Flame Towers for a unique experience.

A Hidden Gem

Baku is not crowded with tourists, which gives it an off-the-radar feel that I really liked. It hosts a Formula 1 Grand Prix, attracting many visitors during the event.

My Inspiration to Visit

I discovered Baku after seeing it on the Grand Tour car show. It looked unlike anywhere else I had been, and it certainly lived up to that expectation!
