How to Get to Budapest – Direct Flights
It is easy to reach Budapest from the UK with a number of direct flights available.
The flight time is around 2.5 hours depending which airport you fly from and there are a variety of flight operators taking flights there.
There are direct flights from;
- London
- Birmingham
- Belfast
- Newcastle
- Liverpool
- Manchester
- Bristol
- Edinburgh
Costs are generally reasonable.
At the time of writing there are flights to Budapest for £30 in October and November.

Getting from Budapest Airport to the City Centre
Getting from Budapest Airport to the city centre is very easy.
You simply walk out of the main terminal building and get on the 100 Bus. This will take you into the city centre.
You use a contactless payment card to pay as you enter the bus. The cost is around £6 and the journey takes around 45 minutes.
The bus goes to Deak Ferenk Ter which is in the Pest centre area near, quite close to the river.

How to Get to Budapest by Train
There are several routes you can take when taking the train from the UK to Budapest.
There are routes via Paris, Brussels, Stuttgart, Munich, Zurich and also a ferry route too.

Costs are likely to be around £300 (based on 1 person in single berth overnight sleeper).
You could also just travel by day and enjoy the views through Europe as you travel.
How to Get to Budapest by Bus
It is possible to take a FlixBus across Europe to Budapest. The route takes around 33 hours.
It goes via Cologne and Vienna – ideal if you wanted to make a nice 2 or 3 stop trip along the way.

Consider a Multi Trip to Budapest
Budapest is centrally located and within easy reach of several other cities with great transport connections.
Why not travel in and out of different places and make a multi stop trip?
I flew out to Budapest and then took the train to Bratislava, then a bus to Vienna and flew back from there.
How to Get to Budapest from the UK Conclusion
- There are lots of direct flight options available from the UK
- Going overland gives the opportunity to see plenty on the way and is an easy way to make a multi stop trip – just stop off wherever you like!
- Budapest is reasonably priced to get to in terms of flights, buses and trains.
