Like many cities it can become very busy at peak times which pushes up prices.

When to Visit Vienna – The Weather

As you can see from the yearly averages for weather in Vienna it can be very hot in July and August. Bear in mind that these figures are average for the month so it means that there will often be days when temperatures are in the 30 degree Celsius range.

That’s nice if you like it really hot but it can also make exploring difficult.

It can also be quite chilly in the winter months.

However, there are some options for nice comfortable weather in May and October.

School Holidays in Austria

Summer school holidays in Austria are two months long and are generally for most of the month of July and August.

These holidays are likely to mean that Vienna is busy with Austrian visitors as well.

When to Visit Vienna

Peak Visitor Numbers in Vienna

July, August and September are the peak months for overnight stays in Vienna.

Given that Vienna attracts many Austrian and German visitors this fits in with the fact that the school holidays are happening during these months too.

In terms of overall numbers just over 8 million visitors took a trip to Vienna in 2024 making it the busiest year it has ever had.

It’s not hard to understand why numbers keep growing – once you have visited Vienna you will definitely want to go back!

Accommodation Prices for Vienna

At time of writing there are plenty of good deals available in Vienna for 2026.

There isn’t currently much difference in prices for hotels in March 2026 to August 2026 but this will of course change as we move towards peak travel season.

If you want a good to deal for Vienna in busier months then it is definitely worth booking as far ahead as you can.

When to Visit Vienna

Flight Prices to Vienna from the UK

At time of writing there are some great flight deals to Vienna from the UK.

January offers great value with flights for £35.

Flight prices then increase through the year to August where the cheapest flight from the UK to Vienna is £102.

October remains strong before dipping down in November.

December flight prices increase a little bit – Vienna is a very popular Christmas market destination.

I visited Vienna in March and enjoyed lovely warm weather – ideal for exploring as I did loads of walking. I got a great deal on both my flight back from Vienna and for my accommodation too.

Don’t forget that you can also easily reach Vienna by bus and train making a great overland journey. It’s location means that it is at the heart of the European train network, making it easy to combine with other cities.

I did a 3 country trip taking in Bratislava and Budapest. I used public transport to connect from these places to Vienna.

When to Visit Vienna – Conclusion

• Book transport and accommodation as far ahead as possible if you have to visit in the peak months of July and August
• Choose Spring and Autumn for the best value for transport and accomodation and also less crowds
• Spring and Autumn offer the ideal weather for exploring – warmer temperatures without being too hot
