How much is a 23kg bag on easyJet?
In my own checks of Easyjet baggage costs, a 23kg hold bag has cost between about £23 and £50 each way when added at booking. Leave it until you get to the airport and it’s a flat £60.
I fly EasyJet a lot, and there is no single price list. Every bag is priced per flight, so the same bag can cost twice as much on a busy route or date.

Why Easyjet Baggage Prices Change
Three things set the price of your bag: how far you’re flying, how busy the flight is, and when you add the bag.
- Distance. Longer flights burn more fuel, and every kilo costs more to carry. A bag to Egypt costs roughly double the same bag to London.
- Demand. easyJet prices bags the way it prices seats. As a flight fills up, both go up.
- Timing. Adding a bag when you book is cheapest. Adding it later in Manage Bookings costs more, and paying at the airport costs most of all.
One catch: hold luggage added online applies to every flight on your booking. If you only need a bag one way, book the outbound and return as two separate bookings.
Real Easyjet Baggage Prices I’ve Found
The same 23kg bag cost £23.99 on a short UK flight and £49.99 on a flight to Egypt on the same day. Here’s what I found when I priced bags at the booking stage.

On the quiet date, a 23kg bag cost less than half what it did over the busy Christmas period.
Easyjet Airport Fees and Excess Baggage
Paying at the airport is the most expensive way to take a bag. easyJet charges £60 for a hold bag at Bag Drop and £60 for an unbooked large cabin bag at the gate.
- Hold bag at Bag Drop: £60. Any bag over your booked allowance goes in the hold at this price.
- Large cabin bag at the gate: £60. This includes bags that turn out too big for the under-seat size.
- Excess weight: around £12 for every kilo over your booked weight, charged at the airport. Adding 3kg online before you fly costs much less.
- Maximum per bag: 32kg. A heavier bag won’t be accepted at any price, so repack or book a second bag.
You can add bags and extra weight in Manage Bookings up to two hours before departure, even after you’ve checked in. Just re-download your boarding pass afterwards.
My tip: weigh your case at home with a cheap luggage scale. It pays for itself the first time it saves you an excess charge.
Sports Equipment, Childrens Items and Easyjet Plus
Sports Equipment
Sports equipment is priced per item and per flight, and it costs more at the airport. These were the prices on an Inverness to London flight when I checked:

Add it on the hold luggage page when you book. Small items can weigh up to 20kg and large items up to 32kg. Check easyJet’s sports equipment rules for sizes first.
Children’s and Infants Items Free
For every infant or child, you can take up to two of these free: a travel cot, pushchair or buggy, car seat, booster seat, pram or baby back carrier. An infant on your lap also gets a free changing bag of up to 45 x 36 x 20cm.
Mobility Equipment: Free
Anyone who needs them can take up to two mobility items, such as a wheelchair, scooter or walking frame, at no charge. Book special assistance early.
Easyjet Plus
If you fly easyJet several times a year, easyJet Plus can pay for itself. Members get a large cabin bag free and can choose an Up Front or Extra Legroom seat at no extra cost. Without a pre-booked bag, the free large cabin bag depends on locker space, and goes in the hold free if the lockers are full.
How To Pay Less for Easyjet Baggage
- Add bags when you book. It is the cheapest point, every time.
- Book early or fly quiet dates. Bag prices rise with demand, just like seats.
- Choose 15kg if you can. For a weekend away it is often a few pounds cheaper than 23kg.
- Pool your weight. People on the same booking share their total allowance, as long as no bag tops 32kg. Two 23kg bags give you 46kg to split.
- Top up weight online, not at the desk. 3kg added in advance costs far less than £12 a kilo at the airport.
