How to Get to Vilamoura
The main way that visitors reach Vilamoura is by flying into Faro airport in Portugal. This is the main airport for the Algarve region of Portugal.
The airport is located just outside the town of Faro itself.
There are lots of low cost flights available to Faro from the United Kingdom.
There are direct flights from the following UK airports to Faro;
- Doncaster
- London
- Aberdeen
- Bristol
- Newquay
- Belfast
- Cardiff
- Liverpool
- Manchester
- Birmingham
- Nottingham
- Norwich
- Edinburgh
- Glasgow
- Leeds
- Newcastle
- Newquay
- Bournemouth
- Exeter
- Southampton
Flights generally cost the most in July and August and are the lowest cost in October and November.
The flight time is 2 hours and 50 minutes from London Luton.
Once you land at Faro airport you will need to either take a transfer, taxi or hire a car to get to Vilamoura. It’s around 16 miles from Faro airport to Vilamoura.
A taxi is likely to cost around ยฃ35 from the airport. A pre-booked transfer may be a little less depending on the vehicle and the flight arrival time.
A shared transfer will be cheaper.
You can also take a local bus from the airport which will cost around 2 to 7 Euros.

How to Get to Vilamoura
Taking the Bus
FlixBus has tickets for November 2024 from London to Faro for ยฃ61 one way. This is comparable to a flight in terms of costs, plus you get a luggage allowance. It does take at least 39 hours depending on the service you book!
You could also break up the journey along the way, making a nice combination trip to getting to Vilamoura.
Once you get to Faro you need to take a local bus to Vilamoura. It will take around 45 minutes and cost around 2-9 Euros depending on the service that you take.

The very helpful website, The Man in Seat61, has all the details of how to take the train to the Algarve. It involves an overnight stay in Barcelona which makes for a nice combi trip.

- Flying to Faro is the cheapest and quickest way to get to Vilamoura. From the airport you will need to take a local bus, a taxi or a transfer to travel the 15 miles to Vilamoura.
- You can take the bus or the train for an overland option.
