Is Valencia Expensive to Visit?
In my experience, Valencia was great value for money. Everything from getting there to getting around, things to do, accommodation and eating and drinking was reasonably priced.
This may be because Valencia is popular with Spanish visitors which may mean prices are geared more towards local visitors.
Valencia also receives 10 million fewer visitors than Barcelona, which may affect the prices too.

Staying There
Valencia has plenty of accommodation available for visitors. You can stay in the old town or at the beach area, or why not stay at both for the perfect combination of a beach and city stay?
There are plenty of great hotels to choose from, as well as plenty of self-catering accommodation.
For November 2024 I found plenty of properties around the ยฃ250-ยฃ300 mark for 4 nights. These were based on my search criteria of having very good review scores and being 4 or 5 stars.
When I visited Valencia I stayed in a lovely apartment with a hot tub, for ยฃ250 for 4 nights.
One thing to avoid is staying during the Fallas Festival. This festival takes place in Spring and demand for hotels is huge, so prices are much higher. The festival runs for around a week. You can get accommodation in the week before the event fairly reasonably but the nights around the main event date, which is the 19th of March, are much higher.

Cost of Getting Around
Valencia is very easy to explore on foot and by bicycle. It’s one of the reasons it became the European Green Capital in 2024.
They have city bikes available in Valencia. These are free for the first 30 minutes. You can also hire them weekly, which gives unlimited use for 13.30 Euros.
A Valencia tourist card, which gives you unlimited use of the metros, trains, trams and buses costs 22.50 Euros for 72 hours. It covers the line from the airport into the city centre as well, saving you the cost of having a transfer.
When I visited I walked a great deal, because it’s so easy to walk around.

Cost of Eating and Drinking
I found Valencia great value when eating and drinking. I should say I am not a big fan of fancy restaurants, I much prefer to go where locals head for a more authentic experience.
I also love food markets and the food stalls that you find in food markets. They are often great value, with fresh and local ingredients too.
Valencia has a wonderful Central Market. It’s full of great stalls and small cafes, making it a very budget-friendly place to eat.
I had the most amazing Plov (Arabian rice) while I was there, plus plenty of lovely fresh juices, pastries and other delights. All were great value.
I found the cafes located around the Central Market great value too.
One of the cafes I enjoyed going to for breakfast looked over the square by the Cathedral. It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy toast with tomatoes, orange juice and coffee all for 2 Euros! It was great value and delicious too – the orange juice in Valencia is amazing!
Is Valencia Expensive – Conclusion
Valencia is around 12% cheaper than Barcelona – that’s comparing costs of living so it includes getting around, rent, eating and drinking
