How to Get To Vienna – Flights from the UK

Vienna is well connected to the UK by flights with plenty of choice of airports around the country.

There are direct flights to Vienna from;

  • Edinburgh
  • Manchester
  • London
  • Leeds
  • Nottingham
  • Glasgow
  • Newcastle
  • Belfast
  • Bristol

At the time of writing there are flights available from Edinburgh to Vienna for £15, Manchester £19 and all flights are under £40 one way.

Vienna International Airport is around 20 minutes from the city centre of Vienna.

How To Get to Vienna

Travelling by Bus to Vienna

You can take a Flixbus to Vienna from the UK.

There are Flixus routes available from all over the UK. The Flixbus to Vienna leaves from Victoria coach station.

It travels to Paris and then goes to via Strasbourg and Stuttgart to Salzburg where you then take a train to Vienna.

The journey takes around 35 hours.

How to Get To Vienna

Travelling by Train from the UK

Vienna is at the heart of some great train routes so it is well connected with a variety of ways to get there by train.

There are a variety of routes to Vienna including the option to reach it in one day from London using a fast train.

There are also routes that use the sleeper train – options include going via Paris, Frankfurt and Stuttgart.

You can also use the ferry to travel to Amsterdam and then get the sleeper train from Amsterdam to Vienna.

How to Get Travel to Vienna

Travel From Another Country

Vienna is well connected to other countries in Europe, by rail, bus and also by boat so you could easily travel to Vienna from another country.

I travelled to Vienna from Bratislava by bus.

The journey was just over an hour from Bratislava Bus Station to Vienna Edberg where I was able to get a tram to the city centre.

There are also options to connect by train to Paris, Strasbourg, Brussels and Amsterdam.

OBB (the Austrain national railway company) has trains that travel out to Warsaw and Croatia.

How to Get to Vienna

Travelling by Boat

Vienna is on the Danube river.

You can actually take a boat to Vienna from Bratislava, or vice versa. It takes around 3 hours and is operated by the Twin Deck Liner

Pretty much all the river cruises on the Danube visit Vienna. There are all sorts of options available including week long river cruises, sea to sea cruises and everything inbetween.

How to Get to Vienna – Conclusion

  • Vienna is located at the heart of Europe making it easy to combine visiting Vienna with a number of other destinations
  • There are great rail connections to Vienna from across Europe
  • If you want to do a 3 hour cruise on the Danube then take the boat to Vienna from Bratislava for something a bit different
