I’ve used both lounges myself, and in this guide to Heathrow Terminal 5 lounges, I’ll show you exactly what’s available, how to access each one, what they’re really like inside, and which is worth your money.

It’s the only lounge here that you pre-book with Priority Pass, it has better seating than the alternative, and I think it’s the most comfortable out of the two.

Club Aspire Lounge – Heathrow Terminal 5 (My Top Pick)

Near Gate A18 in the departures area.

How I Accessed It

I booked this lounge in advance using my Priority Pass membership. Pre-booking is strongly recommended. There are only 2 paid access lounges at Heathrow Airport and there is often more demand for space than there are spaces available.

What It’s Like Inside

The Aspire Lounge offers:

• A mix of seating including booths, sofas, workbenches, tables and chairs
• It’s layout makes it seem larger than the Plaza lounge
• Hot and cold food on the buffet
• Complimentary alcoholic drinks from a fully tended bar
• Decent Wi-Fi and charging points

Overall, it feels more comfortable and better designed for longer stays than the Plaza Lounge in Terminal 5.

• Priority Pass members – especially those who want to prebook to guarantee entry
• Couples and solo travellers
• Anyone with a longer wait before boarding

Plaza Premium Lounge – Heathrow Terminal 5

Location

This lounge is located on the ground floor after security near Gate A7.

How I Accessed It

I used my Priority Pass lounge pass to visit. It was extremely busy when I visited and I was told that there may not be a seat available when I went into the lounge – crazy. I had to wait for someone to leave their seat for one to be free!

What It’s Like Inside

The Plaza Premium lounge is built around the corner of the terminal building in a similar way to the Aspire Lounge which is at the other end of the terminal building. The layout of the lounge made it feel smaller than the Aspire Lounge for some reason. I think this was because the bar is in a different location and this makes the lounge feel narrower and more crowded.

The Plaza Premium offers:

• Buffet-style food
• Bar service for all alcoholic drinks
• Sofa style seating
• Individual chairs with small tables
• Showers (available for an extra £27.50)

This lounge was one of the busiest I have ever visited and it made for an uncomfortable experience. Infact, I left after a short while and headed for a meal in Wagamama instead.

Using Priority Pass at Heathrow Terminal 5

If you have Priority Pass, the Aspire Lounge is your best option at Terminal 5.

One big advantage here is that you can pre-book your visit, which removes the risk of being turned away when it’s busy.

Terminal 5 is a very busy terminal anyway and I think that two paid entry lounges isn’t enough for the number of passengers that are using this terminal.

Which Heathrow Terminal 5 Lounge Should You Choose?

Here’s my honest take after using both:

Choose Aspire If:

✔ You have Priority Pass
✔ You want better seating
✔ You’ll be staying for more than an hour
✔ You want guaranteed entry

Choose Plaza Premium If:

✔ You don’t have Priority Pass
✔ Aspire is full
✔ You’re happy to pay on the day

For most travellers, Aspire is the clear winner.
