Is Seville Worth Visiting?
Seville was somewhere I had wanted to go for a very long time. Finally, I got a tour that visited the Southern part of Spain and Morocco. As part of this tour we ended up staying for 3 nights in beautiful Seville.
We stayed a little on the outskirts of the city centre, nearer to the main railway station. However, it was easy to get around the city. We also had a city tour with a local guide which was a good way to get an orientation and overview of the city.
Seville is an autonomous community in the Andalucia region of Spain. The total population of the city and surrounds is 1.5 million people.

Getting to Seville
Which is Better Barcelona or Seville?
Barcelona is great is you want easy access to the beach. Seville feels less crowded and seems less tourist orientated. It also has easy access to places such as Granada and Cordoba.
There are direct flights from the UK to Seville from the following airports;
- London
- Manchester
- Birmingham
- Bristol
You can also reach Seville by train or by bus from the UK too if you want a fantastic overland experience.

When to Visit Seville
Seville is located in one of the hottest regions of Spain and it’s summers are very hot. Normal temperatures are in the high 30 degrees, with 40 degree temperatures not uncommon now either.
July and August are generally the hottest months.
For a pleasantly warm, rather than a hot visit, I would recommend considering March or April (depending on how warm you like it) and September and October.
Hotel rates are likely to be better also.
Even November and February might be worth considering as tempartures are still generally around 15 degrees.

Getting Around Seville
Seville is very easy to walk around. The city centre is quite company and it is easy to walk between all the main sights.
There are buses, trams and a metro line if you want to explore further.
There is also a great train network that links Seville to many other parts of Spain.
Little Tip from Me: There is a bus connection between Seville and Faro Airport in Portugal so you could easily combine two countries in one trip.

Seville as a Solo Female Traveller
I felt safe and comfortable exploring Seville on my own, as well as eating out and visiting places around the city.
I did not go out late at night because I was with a tour group but I would have had no hesitation in doing so.

Is Seville Expensive?
Like all cities there are more expensive areas and areas where there is better value.
I bought some souvenirs which I thought were reasonably priced. Food and drink during my city visit was reasonable, although I could have eaten at more expensive places if I had wanted to.
The public transport network was good value and most of my group used it to go and visit Cordoba.

Staying in Seville
Seville has a great selection of hotels available.
There is everything from historic places to modern hotels.
If you are looking for something right in the city centre the Radisson at Magdalena Plaza is a great choice. It also has a rooftop pool and terrace for when you want to cool off.
If you fancy your own apartment the Acetres 5 Apartment is right in the city centre. You have your own kitchenette and access to a cute roof terrace too.
There really is something for everyone and every budget!

Things to Do in Seville
Seville has plenty to see and do during your visit.
During our city tour we visited Seville Cathedral. It was beautiful inside but not something I would generally visit on my own.
We also visited the Royal Alcazar – oh my goodness this building is just stunning. The detail in the masonry is mind boggling. This is definitely worth visiting when you are in Seville.
I enjoyed walking around the city centre, stopping off for a bit of refreshment along the way. I also enjoyed exploring the narrow streets in the city centre.
My favourite place was Plaza De Espana set in Maria Luisa park. The building was constructed for a Worlds Fair in 1929. Every one of the 52 areas of Spain is represented in the ‘benches’ around the building.
You can also take a boat trip on the lake which is there also. I really loved this spot – it was great for people spotting too!
The Metropol Parasol is something I am going to do when I go back to Seville. I didn’t have time to visit when I was in Seville but some of my guests did and they absolutely loved it.
This striking piece of architecture has a walkway and a panoramic viewing terrace too.
The Guadalquivir river runs through Seville and there are plenty of options for boat trips to get a different view of the city.
The opposite side of the river from the old town is the district of Triana. This is the home of flamenco, something you should also try and see when visiting Seville.
If you are a fan of a hop on and hop off bus there are several available including combination bus and boat trip tickets too.

Is Seville Worth a Visit?
Seville Suprises
A pleasant surprise was the discovery of Tinto Verano. When visiting a bar for some tapas I asked for a local drink. It is delicious and very refreshing and something I make myself at home too.
It is red wine mixed with Sprite (or something similar flavoured) served with ice and lemon. The result is a very refreshing drink with a nice sweet taste. It is easy to forget there is alcohol in this drink!
Is Seville Worth Visiting? – Conclusion
- Absolutely! I found Seville welcoming, friendly and easy to explore.
- I would go back to Seville just for the food to be honest!
- Seville is linked by rail to many other parts of Spain making it perfect for a multi stop trip.
