Easyjet Baggage Allowance
What Is the Easyjet Baggage Allowance?
Every seat has a 45cm x 36cm x 20cm under-seat case included with a standard fare. Extra cabin or hold luggage can be added when booking your flight.
Easyjet Baggage Allowance
What Size Luggage is Free on Easyjet?
Included for all Easyjet bookings is an under-seat case or bag.
The Easyjet free baggage size is 45cm x 36cm x 20cm.
This is the total size of the luggage including any wheels and handles.
This size must fit into the luggage gauge which is available before check-in and security.
It must fit in without being forced.
You cannot put this luggage in the overhead locker.
However, if the plane is fully boarded and there is overhead luggage space you should be able to do this. I have done this with no issue.

Can I Take a Handbag as Well as Hand Luggage on An Easyjet Flight?
This is a common question so I will answer it right now.
The answer is no.
Well, it’s no you can’t take them through security or the gate.
You must only have one bag (unless you have paid for extra luggage)
You can take a handbag but it must fit inside your case for going through security and when going through the Easyjet boarding gate.
I use a travel document holder that has room for tickets, passports, earbuds, wired earphones, chewing gum, bank cards and cash. I simply put this in the front pocket of my under-seat case and take it out when I board the plane.
That way I have everything with me during the flight without having to rummage through my suitcase. I also don’t have to worry about losing things because everything is in a little bag.
Easyjet baggage rules are generally strict and usually enforced i.e. you won’t get away with breaking them.
Easyjet Baggage Allowance – No Personal Item
There is no allowance on Easyjet for a personal item as there is on other airlines.
This is what sometimes confuses travellers.
Just to reiterate the point above – you can only take 1 bag through the gate, which must include all your belongings unless you have paid for an extra cabin bag.
Easyjet Baggage Policy
Easyjet Cabin Baggage
You can pay to take an extra cabin bag on your flight.
You can do this in two ways;
- You can simply add one extra cabin bag when booking your flight
- You can pay for a Standard Plus fare which includes an extra cabin bag, speedy boarding and upfront seats
The cheapest way is simply to add an extra cabin bag at the time of booking.
This is generally cheaper than a Standard Plus fare. Standard Plus fares are also limited as there are a limited number of Upfront seats available.
As with any extra luggage if you have to log back in to add the luggage it will be more expensive than if you book it when you make your initial flight booking.
The size for an overhead cabin bag is;
56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm
This must be the outside measurements of the case including all handles and wheels.

Medicines
You can take medicines on board in the cabin with you that are in containers larger than 100ml. You will need a letter from a health professional saying that these items need to carried with you and that they are for you.
This also includes oxygen cylinders, sharp items such as needles, and any medical equipment that may be classed as dangerous goods (see further down this post)
If you plan to travel with controlled drugs – things like Diazepam, Lorazepam, Codeine or Tramadol – you need to carefully check the rules for the country you are travelling to. Check the embassy rules for the country you are visiting and the country entry requirements carefully too.
Double-check all the rules and requirements on the Easyjet website.
Little Tip From Me: I always recommend taking medication in your hand luggage, just in case your hold luggage goes missing. It can be very difficult to get prescriptions in other countries quickly.
Easyjet Baggage Policies
Cabin Baggage Medical Equipment
You can take quite a wide variety of medical equipment into the cabin.
It has to be smaller than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm.

- Dialysis machines
You should contact Easyjet special assistance in advance to check any requirements and rules

Children over 2 years old must be seated in their own seat, which you will need to book and pay for. They will also have an under seat case/bag allowance as well as a changing bag.

- Travel cot
- Pushchair
- Car Seat

Easyjet Baggage Rules
Mobility Items
If you require mobility aids you can take up to 2 items free of charge with you.
These include;
- Wheelchairs
- Mobility scooter
- Walking crutches
- Walking frame
Any mobility aids must fit through the cabin door which is 1.7 metres high and 1.2 metres wide.
Any mobility scooters over 60kg will need prior authorisation.
There are also rules about batteries for mobility scooters – these vary depending on the type of battery.
You should contact Easyjet Special Assistance as far in advance as possible about any special assistance items.
Easyjet Baggage
Musical Instruments
If your musical instrument is under 45 x 36 x 20 cm it can be taken on board in place of a small under-seat bag i.e. for no charge.
If your musical instrument is over 45x36x20cm but smaller than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm it can be taken on board in place of an extra cabin bag. (You will need to book and pay for an extra cabin bag).
If your instrument is over 56cm x 45cm x 25cm but smaller than 30cm x 117cm x 38cm it can be taken on board and stowed in the overhead locker. (You will need to book and pay for an extra cabin bag).
If it is larger than 30cm x 117cm x 38cm you may be able to take it onboard by booking an extra seat.
There are size requirements for the musical instrument to go on or in the seat area. They can only be carried in window seats and there are height restrictions too.

Hold Luggage
Every passenger flying with Easyjet can book up to 3 items of hold luggage.
There are several sizes of hold luggage available;
- 15kg
- 23kg
- 26kg
- 29kg
- 32kg
You can mix and match hold bag weights.
The maximum hold baggage any passenger can take is 3 x 32kg.
Whatever weight of hold luggage you take, the luggage must meet the overall size of being less than 275cm.
This means that when you add the length, width and depth of the luggage the sum of all those measurements when added together has to be less than 275cm.

Sporting Equipment
You can take a wide variety of sporting equipment on board an Easyjet flight.
I have included a list below but if your sporting equipment isn’t show and is similar in size to anything on the list then it is worth contact Easyjet to find out if it is permitted.
Pricing for sporting equipment is dynamic. That means as the price of the flight changes the price of taking sporting equipment changes as well.
As with all luggage the cheapest time to pay for it is when you make your initial flight booking.
You can add sports equipment in the screen that says ‘hold luggage’. At the bottom right hand side is a button to select sporting equipment.

Easyjet Baggage Fees
As I said in the beginning the Easyjet baggage costs and fees vary depending on the cost of the flight.
There is no extra cost to take an under-seat case. This is included in every booking so there are no additional charges to pay for this luggage.
There are two ways to increase the luggage allowance;
- Pay extra for a Standard Plus or Essentials Fare.
- Pay to add luggage
The costs of each of these options vary depending on the flight you are taking.
The cheapest way to do this is to add them at the booking stage. If you go back into your booking to add luggage on at a later date it will be more expensive than if you added at the time of booking.
Below is a table which compares 2 Easyjet flights flying to 2 different destinations on the same day so you can see the difference.
Inverness to London Gatwick | London to Egypt | |

Easyjet Plus Members
If you are an EasyjetPlus member you can select any seat on the plane without paying a seat reservation fee because this is included in your membership.
If you are flying regularly and are choosing extra legroom or upfront seats this can add up to quite a saving.
EasyjetPlus members can take an overhead locker-sized bag as well. If there is space this will be accommodated on board or it will be checked in for free. Members in standard seats will need to check this with gate staff.
