If you are looking for the best Gatwick North Lounge for nervous flyers then check out this guide.

I am a nervous flyer despite travelling for work for 37 years now. Airports really don’t help with anxiety – especially being shouted at through security.

I’ve visited all these lounges personally so know the differences between them.

I visited using my Priority Pass airport lounge membership. It’s a travel essential for me and my Standard Plus Membership means each of my 10 included lounge visits works out at £20.60 each – better value than an airport meal.

✈️ Instant Verdict – Best Gatwick North Lounge for Nervous Flyers

If you want the single best Gatwick North Lounge for nervous flyers, I think it’s the Plaza Premium Lounge.

Why?

  • The No1 Lounge is the most popular lounge at Gatwick which means the Plaza Premium is often a good deal quieter.
  • It is a large lounge with plenty of seating available, including booths and tables
  • There is a hot buffet running throughout the day (the selection is a little smaller than the No1 Lounge but worth it for the extra quiet)

The Plaza Premium is my regular lounge at Gatwick North terminal. I find the No1 Lounge too busy generally. I like the calmer and quieter atmosphers of the Plaza Premium.

Here’s what the Plaza Premium has to offer nervous flyers;

  • Variety of tables, sofa seating and lounge chairs & tables including booths
  • Hot food buffet – the selection is slightly smaller than the No1 Lounge but still 2 or 3 hot dishes available
  • Good views of the runway
  • Good WIFI
  • Power sockets around the outside of the lounge mainly

No 1 Lounge

The No1 Lounge is the most popular lounge at Gatwick North Terminal. That means it can get very busy which makes it harder to find a quiet corner. As the lounge quietens towards the end of the day they close over various sections of the lounge, which means everyone is in one area together – again making it harder to find a quiet spot.

Here’s what the No 1 Lounge offers nervous flyers:

  • Dining tables, bar table and bar stool seating, plus lots of sofa and lounge seating
  • Couple of smaller areas to find a quieter corner like the Library area
  • Strong WiFi
  • Power sockets along the edge of the lounge
  • Hot food buffet running all day with salads and puddings too

How to Access the No1 Lounge Gatwick North Terminal

  • Buy access directly with No1 Lounges – £46 per adult for a 3 hour stay
  • Buy access through via my discount code at Holidayextras – £41.28 for 3 hours guaranteed entry
  • Access via an airport lounges membership scheme such as Priority Pass. The cost to enter depends on your membership level. Standard Plus Membership includes 10 visits so each visit works out to £20.60 each.

Clubrooms

The Clubrooms are a prestige, table service lounge that don’t allow any children under 12 into the lounge. When I visited it was towards the end of the day and this lounge was very quiet – I was the only person left in the lounge by the end of my visit.

Here’s what the Clubrooms has to offer nervous flyers;

  • Quieter lounge experience
  • Table service for meals (you can have several small plates or a couple of larger dishes)
  • Wider range of drinks with self service soft drinks
  • Self service snacks such as nuts, olives and cake bites
  • Some items on the breakfast menu are self service such as pastries and juices
  • Good WIFI
  • Power sockets around the outside of the lounge mainly

The Clubrooms has lots of low tables and low chairs but there are some higher tables in the lounge too.

The Clubrooms at Gatwick North Terminal is quite big compared to other Clubrooms so it feels a bit quieter.

There is also a tiny TV room with 2 seats if you wanted a more private space!

The Clubrooms doesn’t have any views at all so it might suit some nervous flyers who prefer not to watch planes while waiting to catch one.

How to Access the Clubrooms at Gatwick North Terminal

  • Buy access directly with No1 Lounges – £50 per adult for a 3 hour stay
  • Access via an airport lounges membership scheme such as Priority Pass. The cost to enter depends on your membership level. I used my Priority Pass Standard Membership which made entry £20.60

My Lounge

The My Lounge is an informal relaxed style lounge. It has a more flexible dress code than other lounges and has a more homely feel to the lounge.

Here’s what the My Lounge has to offer nervous flyers;

  • Sofa and lounge seating
  • Games table with arcade games and football table
  • Good WIFI
  • Power sockets around the outside of the lounge mainly

My Lounge can be noisy due to the games table being used. There are a couple of quieter areas at the far end of the lounge (from the entrance) but not as many as other lounges.

The menu at the My Lounge is based around Chicken or Mushroom gyros so it’s more a lounge for a snack rather than a meal.

There is no runway view from the My Lounge which might be better for nervous flyers who prefer not to watch planes.

✨ Why Nervous Flyers Should Use Gatwick North Lounges

Despite the fact I have been flying regularly for most of my life, and my job involves flying, I still get nervous about it. The anxiety starts to increase when I get to the airport – I find security a nerve jangling and stressful experience.

Here’s why I think airport lounges are great options for us nervous flyers;

  • A quieter and more comfortable space away from the crowds of a busy terminal.
  • No announcements – lounges have flight information boards so there are no loud announcements being made
  • Food and drink – I find it harder to be nervous about a flight when I have a nice buffet to enjoy – cake is great for calming nerves!
  • Better WIFI and power sockets which are great if you want to stream something or do some work

Booking an airport lounge is like upgrading your airport experience – it makes it so much better.

💼 Is Priority Pass Worth It for Nervous Flyers?

If you fly several times a year, the answer is usually yes.

If you plan to use airport lounges more than 3 times a year then airport lounge membership is usually the best value option.

My Priority Pass Membership is a travel essential as a nervous flyer. It gives me access to the greatest number of lounges and I can prebook entry so I know that no matter how busy the airport is I can still get into the lounge.

Lounge access is one of the easiest ways to upgrade your airport experience.

It turns a Gatwick North visit into a calmer and more comfortable start to journey.

❓ FAQs – Gatwick North for Nervous Flyers

Is there support available at Gatwick North Terminal if I’m anxious about flying?

Yes. Gatwick’s Special Assistance service can support passengers through the airport, and this includes hidden disabilities — not just visible or mobility-related ones. You can book assistance in advance through your airline, who will share details with the airport team. If you’d rather make your own way through the airport but still want discreet support, you can collect a Hidden Disability Lanyard from the Special Assistance desks. Staff will recognise this as a signal that you may need extra consideration, without needing to know what your condition is.

What does security at Gatwick North Terminal actually involve — and is it stressful?

Gatwick North Terminal completed a £45 million security upgrade in late 2025, installing advanced CT scanners. As of early 2026, Gatwick has officially scrapped the 100ml liquid rule — you can now carry liquids in containers up to 2 litres in your cabin bag, and laptops and large electronics can stay in your hand luggage. Coats and jackets must still be removed. The average security wait time at Gatwick is between 5 and 20 minutes, though this can rise to 30–40 minutes at peak times, particularly early morning. Live wait times are displayed on information screens within the terminal. I find my noise cancelling headphones help me deal with the queuing in security much better.

Can I pay to avoid the security queue if crowds make me anxious?

Yes — Fast Track Security gives you access to a separate express lane. For nervous flyers, it can meaningfully reduce the stress of the security experience. Fast Track can be pre-booked via the My Gatwick app for around £6, which is cheaper than walk-up pricing. The Fast Track Security lane at Gatwick is open from 05:00 to 17:00 in both terminals.

Is there anywhere quiet to sit once I’m through security?

Yes — there are quiet zones in the departure lounge after security where you can sit in a less noisy environment. If you’d like more comfort and space, the airport lounges offer a calm setting with food, drinks, and other facilities. There is also a multi-faith chapel on the ground floor next to Arrivals — quiet, carpeted, and comfortable. It’s open to everyone.

What if I have a panic attack or feel overwhelmed at the airport?

Help Points are located throughout the terminal, in car parks, forecourts, and at baggage reclaim. Lifting the green telephone connects you to assistance free of charge. You can also approach any member of staff and ask for help — you don’t need to explain your full situation. The multi-faith chapel and quiet zones are also accessible if you just need a few minutes away from the noise.

I’m worried about long walks to the gate. What should I know?

Gates 101–113 at North Terminal require a walk of around 18–20 minutes from security. If you’re concerned about long distances, flag this when booking assistance. Gatwick’s Special Assistance team can help passengers who struggle with long walks — you are entitled to assistance even if your reason is not a visible disability. Allow extra time and start moving to your gate as soon as it is announced.

✈️ Final Verdict – Best Gatwick North Terminal Lounge for Nervous Flyers

  • My recommendation for the best overall lounge is the Plaza Premium Lounge.
  • This recommendation is based on the lounge being quieter, having good views and having an all day hot buffet.
  • I also found the service friendly and welcoming and the space relaxing because it’s less busy.

Do you need a hotel at Gatwick Airport?

My favourite hotel at the North Terminal is the Sofitel. It’s connected by a walkway and has lovely comfy beds. You might want to avoid atrium view rooms as the noise can travel up the atrium and you can’t have your window blinds open (unless you want everyone to see you in your jim jams)
